Who we are

SponsorCheck is an independent website built and run by [Your full name], a freelance web developer, to help people read the public Home Office register more easily. It is not a company and does not provide immigration or legal services. [Your full name] is the controller of the personal information described here and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration number [ICO registration number]. Write to [Your contact address] or email [contact email address] about privacy.

Information we collect

  • Enquiries and booking requests. When you use the Contact us form we collect your name, email address, phone number (if given) and your message.
  • Analytics. Only if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects information about how the site is used, such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser. See our Cookie Policy.
  • Technical data. Our servers keep standard logs (IP address, time, page requested) for security and to keep the site running.
  • Searching the register. Searches are not tied to your identity. The sponsor register is public information published by the Home Office.

Why we use it and our legal basis

  • To reply to your enquiry or booking request: our legitimate interests, and steps you ask us to take before a service is provided.
  • To measure and improve the site with analytics: your consent. You can change your mind at any time.
  • To keep the site secure and prevent abuse: our legitimate interests.
  • To meet legal obligations, such as keeping records: legal obligation.

We do not sell your personal information.

Sponsor and employer information

The register lists organisations that hold a sponsor licence. We republish it exactly as the Home Office publishes it, under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Some entries may be sole traders or contain a person's name. If you believe an entry about you should not appear, or want to ask a question about it, contact us and we will consider your request. Note that the Home Office is the source of the register and the official place to correct it.

Who we share it with

We use trusted providers to run the site, such as website hosting, email delivery and, if you consent, Google Analytics. They may only use your information to provide their service to us. Some providers, including Google, may process data outside the UK; where they do, they rely on approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries for as long as needed to deal with them and for up to [retention period, for example 24 months] afterwards, unless the law requires longer. Analytics data is kept by Google for the period set in our Analytics account.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, object to our use of it, ask for it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. To use these rights, email [contact email address]. We aim to reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Marketing emails

If we email an organisation about our services, every message says who we are and has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops further marketing emails.
